Quick answer

How can I stay reachable on a US number while traveling abroad?

Get a second number before you go. Second Phone Number gives you a real US & Canada number that works in an app over Wi-Fi or mobile data, so you can call and text US and Canadian numbers from anywhere without swapping SIM cards. Plans start at $2.99 a week.

Travel light. Stay in touch.

Roaming bills, SIM swaps and missed messages shouldn’t come with the trip.

  • Skip the roaming surprise

Without a second number: Calling home on your carrier’s roaming plan can mean daily passes or per-minute charges.

With a second number: Call and text US and Canadian numbers over hotel or café Wi-Fi, included in your plan.

  • Keep one number through every stop

Without a second number: A local SIM means a new number in each country, and nobody back home knows which one to use.

With a second number: Give everyone your second number once. It rings in the app wherever you’re connected.

  • Get bookings and confirmations on the road

Without a second number: Swap out your home SIM and texts from hotels, hosts and tour operators stop reaching you.

With a second number: Use your second number for bookings and get their texts over Wi-Fi. Some banks don’t accept virtual numbers, so check first.

Questions

Travel questions, answered.

Straight answers before you choose your number.

Does my second number work outside the US and Canada?

Yes. Your number is from the US & Canada, but you can use it from anywhere in the world with Wi-Fi or mobile data. Calls and texts to US and Canadian numbers are included in your plan.

Will I pay roaming charges?

Calls and texts in the app use your internet connection, not your carrier’s calling plan, so on Wi-Fi there’s nothing extra to pay your carrier. Using mobile data abroad may cost extra, depending on your carrier or data plan.

Can I get a local number in the country I’m visiting?

Numbers are available in the US & Canada only. To call local numbers abroad, use in-app international credits, which reach 100+ countries.

I’m visiting the US. Can I get a US number before I arrive?

Yes. Choose a US number by area code or city before you travel, set up the app on your iPhone, and give the number to hotels, hosts and tour operators.

Can I receive verification codes while abroad?

Texts reach your second number wherever you’re connected, and many apps accept it for sign-up codes. Some banks and platforms block virtual (VoIP) numbers, so keep your main number active for those.

Verification compatibility guide

Can I call emergency services with it abroad?

Don’t rely on your second number for emergency calls. Use the local emergency number from your phone’s regular calling instead.
